As an Urban Arts Collaborative core value, nature, and art can lead us to profound personal growth and lasting confidence. Therefore, we support the equitable distribution of healthy, sustainable, and locally cultivated food. Every year, UAC allocates funding to support an essential ingredient of a healthy and thriving community life. Our food justice program participants have the opportunity to address food justice issues in our community collectively. As a result of this value, Urban Arts Collaborative has partnered with Green Thumb Farms since 2015 to secure clean food distributed to UAC youth and families throughout the year. While supporting family-owned farms like Green Thumb in or seasonal-grown organic produce for our Food Justice and Wellness participants.
UAC Food justice and wellness programs are free of charge to all UAC participants, impacting at least 1,000 people every year. We prioritize teens struggling with low family income, academic challenges, trauma, foster care, and underserved youth and adults throughout Salinas and South Monterey County. Participants can participate in captivating food justice educational workshops focusing on nature, land stewardship, sustainable farming, and a plant-based diet.
